This system currently available adds a number of features to my Backyard Observatory that allow me to sleep through the night whether I am imaging or not. The security system features provide me with some piece of mind. The automation, roof control and scripting features allow me to control my observatory through an ASCOM driver that works with CCDAutopilot and ACP software. Additionally, with Chris Hetlage's help we were able to develop control of the Pier Tech 3 pier. Currently, with the script that we developed, when I open the roof after completing this, the pier raises to full height. When execute a close roof, it checks the position of the pier and if the pier is not fully down, it lowers it fully and only then closes the roof. It has worked every time! All of this is under remote control from my home office. Below are several images of the system and the control software. The system can send email, text, or telephone messages to alert you of the occurrence of predefined events. You can then look into the observatory with the use of video camera.

All control is based on the battery backed-up control panel which has internet and telephone connectivity.

The entire system can be accessed through an ASCOM control which has a manual interface as well.

It allows remote monitoring of conditions in the observatory. These conditions can trigger events such as turning on a heater.

Using the ELKRM interface you can remotely control power to equipment and turn on a PC for remote observing.

The ELKRM interface allows you to perform predefined tasks remotely such as open roof or raise pier.
